When a new high school and middle school were built in Clay in 1996, our community became an attractive place for families wanting a good education for their children. Already, Clay Elementary was a crowning jewel in the community.
The city as a whole places a priority on education as 24% of the population is age 18 or younger. The city has a school committee that recommends ways the city can enhance the education caliber for Clay residents.
The City of Clay pays for a random drug-testing program for all students in extra-curricular activities at Clay-Chalkville High School. This was a pilot program for the Jefferson County School system but has been used as an example for other schools. All of this creates a better work environment for teachers and students.
